The partners Frank Venus and Armin Sendlbeck have been running sightseeing tours with road trains since 2003. At the beginning they used vehicles produced by competitors, although massive problems arose time and time again, primarily caused by the cobblestone pavement widely existing in Regensburg. Furthermore the characteristics of the former road trains or were not optimal for the sightseeing tours through the town, in particular through the narrow streets and alleyways.

Because of these experiences and also because of being tired of the
unsuccessful searching, they decided to design their own optimized vehicle. In the summer of 2006 they started the first construction of their first road train “CityTrain3000”.

Motivated by their success, they considered extending their range of vehicles. Already in early stages there were many requests for a smaller version of the road train. Most potential purchasers were interested in a train with a nostalgic design. In the following the product line “CityTrain3000” was expanded by the product line “CityTrain100”, based on a Toyota Jeep.

In 2010 the team of City Train accepted another challenge. A costumer wanted the company to construct a local passenger train which is able to cope with more extreme gradients. Even this task was also mastered with brilliance and bravura. The new locomotive “CityTrain500” based on a Fendt tractor is able to climb gradients of up to 23%. This power is not just astoundingly, but unique in the industry of road trains!

Meanwhile the road trains of City Train are in operation nationwide in Germany as well as throughout Europe like for example in Croatia, Norway and
Switzerland.
